Have you noticed that all posts on The Morning Adam™ are written in a third-party plural voice (“we”, “us”, or “The Morning Adam™”)
…even though we believe we’re all pretty clear that, up until now, this whole shebang is basically one dude with a couple cats writing from a cigar shop?
We’ve had a few rare case where an article got published with a telltale “I” or “me” that didn’t get edited out.
There’s a reason for that.
It’s not conceit (actually,
I’m we’re pretty modest).
Not is it an exercise in exuberant, unbridled Illeism, like the character this guy won an Emmy for:
The reason is much more elementary, and it’s a forward-looking viewpoint type issue:
We Are “Living The Future”
Have you heard the one about dressing up like someone who has the job or the opportunity you are striving for?
Or, the concept of adding a directional modifier when telling people what you do:
- “I’m a staff accountant.” (original)
- “I’m a staff accountant on my way to becoming VP of Finance”.
- “I’m a blogger.”
- “I’m a blogger on the way to building an independent media outlet for entrepreneurial news and topics.”
That Last Thing, Is What We’re Doing Here
We vision, in the very near future, a cadre of contributing authors who will drive a lot of the content.
As contributors to The Morning Adam™ they become part of an outlet.
The entire thing could be sold at some point. (Smart businesses have exit strategies.)
So, by referring to ourselves in the third person plural, we position ourselves NOW as the Editorial Board for a major independent media outlet for entrepreneurial news and topics.
